Meet Boris and Natasha, Our Fur Babies

We have a pair of Russian Blue cats.  Boris and Natasha.  I know, where’s Bullwinkle?  Ha, Ha, Ha.  They’re Russian Blues. Magnificent animals who think they’re people.  We keep them inside unless they escape, and that they try to do, often.  What’s so interesting about these cats is how intuitive they are.  Here they sit, in one of their favorite spots, the window of our home office, taking in the sun and grooming each other.  When we’re home they generally follow us where ever we go in the house.  I have no idea where they stay when we’re away.  Sometimes in the closet, the bed in our guest room, our bed, the living room sofa, and the windows in both bathrooms.   I’ve given them a portion of our greenhouse window in the kitchen because I gave up trying to keep them out of it while they knocked over my orchid plants.  Guess who rules the roost??

If you have an inside cat, then this will not come as a surprise, but it’s always fun to watch them when they spot an critter outside.  They chatter, hiss, or just stare.  This breed of cat is interesting.  We picked it after our old cats, both normal everyday cats, died.  I was looking for a cat that was smart, loving, and a people cat — a lap cat.  Maybe someother Russian Blue do that, but our Boris and Natasha don’t sit on laps.  They sit on the back of the chair we might be sitting in.  They chase each other up and stairs, sounding like a herd of elephants.  They skid on the floors and push the carpets into weird shapes.  They are so special to us, we wouldn’t give them up for anything. And, how can you not love it when they groom Alex’s beard!

Now, Boris has a problem.  We don’t think he can smell.  His little nose is always stuffed up and his eyes run.  Not the first class kitty  we expected, with pedigree, and a high price tag, too.  But he’s ours and we won’t trade him for the world.

Natasha’s papers told us that she was show cat quality. Alex thought it would great fun to show her but  I thought better and squashed that idea.  We work weekends, with people, not cats.  She is beautiful and certainly seems to know it.

Fur babies are easy to deal with.  Real babies, not so.  Next to our grandson’s Jack and Owen, Natasha and Boris are what makes our lives seem real.  After all, they’re always running down the stairs as soon as they hear our key in the front door, greeting us with unconditional love.  What more can one ask?

    Hi,

I was just wondering where & when you purchased your Russian Blue cats. About a year ago, we had to sell (for a very reasonable price)our Russian Blue cats Boris & Natasha to a man & his girlfriend here in Brandon, FL. Your picture looks just like them. And your description sounds just like them too. Please let me know if you think they are the same because I would love to know they are happy and taken care of.

    thanks,
    Jennifer Milone

Hi Jennifer. We got them from a breeder in Colorado. Natasha turns 6 on Thursday and Boris 6 the beginning of January. It’s unfortunate that you lost contact with the family you placed your Blues with. They are such amazing cats!
