It’s a Musical Weekend in San Mateo

If you’re looking for some fun this weekend that doesn’t cost an arm and two legs there are several options to consider.  San Mateo offers two musical ideas for your listening and viewing pleasure, and if you’re willing to drive a few minutes, there’s a good option in Redwood City, too.

Pied Piper PlayersThe Pied Piper Players, a group of children and some adults, are presenting Lucky Duck, a jazzy musical about One Ugly Duck.  Presented at Bayside Performing Arts Center, this is a wonderful opportunity to introduce musical theater to children. Tickets are available online or at the door. Performances begin tonight at 7:30 PM, and tomorrow night at 7:30PM and again on Sunday with a matinee at 2 PM and again next weekend with one additional performance on Friday the 18th at 10 AM.  This is a farcical musicalization of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic “The Ugly Duckling” and should provide a fun evening of entertainment for all.

If you are a jazz lover, and enjoy watching the stars, this one is perfect for you, and it’s FREE, too.  Drive on up to CSM, head over to the astronomy observatory and settle in for an evening of star watching to music.  This one begins at 8 PM, or really when it becomes dark.  This is co-hosted by the San Mateo Astronomical Society and KCSM-FM 91.1FM.

Finally, Peninsula Cantare is going to perform it’s spring concert at Canada College Theatre.  This is a great chorus lead by Janice Gundersen. If you can’t attend this weekend, it’s repeated for a second time next weekend, too.
